The delegation of the European Deposit Systems Association, consisting of Marian Ac, EDRSA President; Ciaran Foley, EDRSA Member of the Board; and Milan Jezovica, EDRSA Secretary General, visited the European Commission on 24 July 2025.

EDRSA had the opportunity to meet with Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič. During the meeting, EDRSA emphasized the importance of an efficient, simplified, and balanced legislative framework within the European Union to ensure effective implementation by member states and to support the work of national deposit return system operators. This framework represents a successful European policy aimed at environmental protection, strengthening competitiveness, furthering the development of clean technologies and the circular economy, maintaining high levels of public support, and promoting public education and awareness.

To discuss more specific issues related to deposit return systems, EDRSA also met with Jan Ceyssens, Deputy Head of Cabinet to Commissioner Jessica Roswall, in continuation of previous communication with Commissioner Roswall. Topics discussed included the functioning of European deposit return systems, the legislative framework, reuse targets, financing, and other related matters within the EU context.

EDRSA remains committed to maintaining a dialogue with the European Commission and will continue discussions regarding the framework and functioning of deposit return systems.
